Amy Atkinson

Hi my name is Amy Atkinson and I'm 21 years of age currently studying a Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Ballarat and I am in my third year. To have a career in health care has always interested me since my mum was a nurse. It wasn't until 2009 that I decided nursing was what I wanted to do when I started a myotherapy course that I didn't enjoy. I don't regret changing courses and am glad I made that decision.

I currently work at Nazareth House as a PCA and find that is has improved my confidence in my basic nursing skills. It has helped me put some of my care into practice and it really has benefited me. I love my job and the people I care for.

I have undertaken clinical placements in mental health, aged care and orthopaedics and I have thoroughly enjoyed each of them. It has made me realise I enjoy several areas of nursing and in the future, it could be a possiblity for me to specialise in a specific area.

Career Goals

  • To gain a graduate year in 2013 and successfully complete it
  • Make the most of each opportunity and actively learn as much as I can
  • Eventually specialise in the area of paediatrics or dialysis
