My Philosophy of Nursing
My name is Madison McGennisken. For as long as I can remember I have wanted to be a nurse, this may come from being a carer for my mother who has several mental illnesses for two years prior to commencing my university studies. I initially wanted to study nursing because evidently I love to care for others and that is exactly what nursing entails. I am currently two years into my nursing studies and with seven weeks of clinical placement under my belt, I know now for certain that nursing is the career path for me. I have always been extremely interested in eventually working within the fields of emergency and/or the intesive care unit but since commencing a mental health subject I have been considering the area of mental health nursing. I enjoy a great challenge and both of these areas to me seem both challenging and vastly rewarding.
I have always seen nursing as tending to the needs of those who are not able to tend to their own needs. I believe that to be a nurse you must be patient, understanding and compassionate.

To Sir/Madam,
Re: 2013 Graduate Nurse Program
I am writing to express my interest in the available position within the graduate program advertised for 2013. I am currently in my final year of my Bachelor of Nursing. With that noted I recently attended your information day for prospective graduate nurses I was very impressed with the graduate program you have to offer at (insert hospital name), the facilities, staff and values are all more than I would want to encounter in a graduate program. I am confident that I have all the skills necessary to be an assest to your team at Mount Helen General.
I have completed clinical placement at St John of God Hospital; Rehabilitation unit, Ballarat Base Hospital; Surgical Unit, St Vincents Mental Health; Inpatients Unit and Stawell Regional Health; Acute, Emergency, Theater, Pathology and Radiology Units. Whilst on clinical placement I have learnt a vast range of skills and gained copeous amounts of hands on experience. I also believe that being placed in such busy wards I have gained great team work skills and the ability to deal with difficult situations involving patients, family and staff. Whilst on clinical placement I have gained competencies in aseptic technique, interpretation of vital signs, hygiene care, therapeutic communicatio, venous puncture and electrocardiograph. I have also gained enormous amounts of knowledge in regards to the administration of medications along with pre and post operative care procedures.
I have a background of satisfactory results from all clinical placements and university assignments. I perceive myself to be an organised and dedicated worker. I am more than willing to learn and I am committed to any ongoing training and professional development where needed. I feel that an interview would be benificial in order to forward my enthusiasim and provide a greater understanding of my personal character.
I am very interested in finding out more information in regards to the graduate position on offer and the employment opportunities available (insert hospital name). I look forward to hearing back from you.
Yours Sincerely
Madison McGennisken
