About Me

I am Kevin Nediyaparambil Antony pursuing Bachelor of Nursing Post Registration Degree at University of Ballarat (William Light Institute). I have completed my Diploma and Bachelors of nursing and worked as a registered nurse in India.

I have 2 years of experience in operation theatre and cathlab. I have strong ability in assisting various surgeries like joint replacement surgeries and  cardiac invasive procedures.

My Philosophy

As a nursing professional, I believe that these are values that should not only be directed towards patients, but also towards co-workers and other people in and around the workplace.  The quality of patients’ experience in nursing care depends on whether these values are observed by the nursing professionals. These values are not something that can be learned within the four walls of the academic institutions. Truly, Caring is an art and science of nursing. Few people know how to provide quality care to people and nurses are expert of that. Being a nurse is not easy. We are dealing not just only one aspect of each person but as a whole. I believe that through this approach, a patient can overcome his condition and be healed. Thus, it continues to help me enhance my nursing skills and knowledge. Knowing that you help someone with their condition is very rewarding and fulfilling. I am a future nurse and I believe Nursing is the most helpful job in the world. When I do become a nurse I will have the chance to serve and help other. Serving others and their needs before my own needs will make a difference. My words and my actions can save one of my patient's lives when I become a successful nurse. To me there is no greater reward than to help a patient heal or recover from their illness. Nursing is a great career that gives the greatest opportunity to save people lives, comfort, and care for them. I would love to provide strength, understanding, and love to a patient, their family members, and close friends. I also believe that Nursing is a very interesting career. When you become a nurse you get to interact and communicate with people of all ages, sizes, and different races. Nurses care for people and help their patients through their illness from all over the world. Nurses encourage, prevent diseases, and educate others. To me a nurse is basically someone who is honest and a caregiver that provides their patients with the best information about their illness or sickness

Florence Nightingale

Florence Nightingale is the pioneer of nursing who lived at a time when allopathy and homeopathy were competing for dominance in medical care. Nightingale's philosophy of health and healing was more similar to the holistic philosophy of homeopathy than to the mechanistic philosophy of allopathy. Why, then, did Nightingale align organized nursing with allopathic medicine? Perhaps Nightingale, always the pragmatist, understood that allopathy would gain the dominant position in medicine. Perhaps aligning nursing with allopathy was a way to ensure the survival and legitimacy of nursing as a profession. Modern nursing can reconnect with Nightingale's holistic philosophy by preparing graduates conversant with holistic philosophy and by encouraging research that focuses on how the natural healing process is facilitated.

Development of Learning Goals

Development of Learning Goals

One of my long-term goals is to advance my knowledge in a specialised field of nursing through further studies. A Post-Graduate Research Degree and the ability to participate in clinical research are some of the things that would help me come closer to this goal.  In the short term, I would prepare for further studies by addressing my personal weaknesses and preparing for the impending threats. I will specifically try to better understand the different cultures that make up Australia by taking greater interest in people whether in the aged care facilities.

Reflection

The practice of nursing is a holistic approach – one that involves the delivery of physical care coupled with respect, compassion and social and cultural sensitivity. To become a truly successful nurse, one has to manifest these values and have the required scientific / medical knowledge.  Looking back, I can say that I have made a strong start toward at becoming a successful nurse. I’ve completed both diploma and degree in Nursing from India and is about to complete the bridging course for overseas nurses in Australia. I have gained a considerable understanding of the different cultures that make up the Australian society through communicating with different people at the university and at work. I believe I am ready for the responsibilities vested upon nurses in Australia although there are some aspects I know I can still improve on. I foresee threats and challenges ahead but I am confident of overcoming them knowing that my greatest strength is the commitment to learning and the interest in people and the various facets of their lives.
