My Philosophy of Nursing

I could say that in Nursing, I am leveled as a novice. This for me is an advantage because I would like to start developing my skills in a country where nurses are given more autonomy in doing their work. I believe that nursing is a vocation that I am made for. Looking back, when I was a child the first recognition that I have ever received in school is the “care award.” It seems a bit humorous at first but it only proves that even as a kid,  I know that the best thing I could in my life is to care.

This concept was given more depth when I started learning and doing nursing. The most important thing that I have learned is that the care that nurses should give must be beyond than curing patients’ illnesses. My favorite nursing theory that I apply to my profession is by theorist Betty Neuman. Explained in her theory that it is essential for nurses to render care to their patients in a holistic manner. After all, if it weren’t for patients, nurses would not exist. These patients, the minute they step inside a health care facility, have entrusted their lives to nurses and us nurses should handle them with outmost care.

My career goal is to gain more knowledge and improve my skills in the profession because what I will gain will not only benefit me but my future patients as well. I want to become the nurse that in her modest ways make a difference in other people’s lives, may it be my patients’ or my colleagues’.

Development of Learning Goals

In order to achieve my goal of becoming an RN in Australia, I will need to focus hard to finish my the current post registration course I am currently taking up. I could achieve this goal by listening attentively to my lecturers, completing the assignments require, read the supplemental materials required in the course, pass my examinations, and complete my clinical placement.

After I have finished this course and finally become an RN, I will need to keep my knowledge and skills up to date by performing Continuing Professional Development (CPD). I can accomplish this by involving myself in short post-registration courses and certifications, reading journals and attending seminars, nursing forums and annual gatherings of nursing organizations. Keeping a professional portfolio would also keep me informed to the aspects of my profession that needs improvement or updating.

Studying in Adelaide, Australia

Studying in Australia is one of the best things that happened to me. The place is so beautiful and the people are all diverse. I think I could not have chosen a better place to study, Australia is the best.

One of my favorite things to do in Adelaide

Nursing in the Philippines

Studying and working as a volunteer nurse in the medical ward and intensive care unit in our country is an experience I will very much miss. Filipinos are a very warm race of people and it may seem odd to other cultures but Filipinos laugh even at the worst situations possible.

Volunteering for the Philippine Red Cross

This is the very first work that I have done as a healthcare professional after I have graduated in Nursing school. I have learnt to empathize to the people that have been struct by unfortunate events such as disasters, to give out health education in rural areas and in slums of cities, and to apply first aid in needed circumstances.
