Philosophy of Nursing

Truly, Caring is an art and science of nursing. Few people know how to provide quality care to people and nurses are expert of that. Being a nurse is not easy. We are dealing not just only one aspect of each person but as a whole. I believe that through this approach, a patient can overcome his condition and be healed. Thus, it continues to help me enhance my nursing skills and knowledge. Knowing that you help someone with their condition is very rewarding and fulfilling.

Developing learning goals

It has been my privileged to continue pursuing my studies in Australia. It is good to note that in order to achieve one’s goals, we must go through the stages of learning things. One of my learning objectives is to improve my communication and interpersonal skills. In the kind of profession I chose, It is very important to know the best ways to communicate at the same time be able to relate with other people very well. Also, though I have my nursing experiences in my home country, still, I think that I need more improvement in terms of giving holistic care to patients as this is the best way in providing quality nursing care to them. These are the things I believe that would uphold my personal and professional growth and development.

Strengths: In terms of culture, I came from a place with different cultures emphasising the good living relationships of Christian and Muslim individuals. I know both cultures and how to deal with them. On the other hand, English is the secondary language in the Philippines. In fact, we were taught English since pre- school and the medium of instruction in our school is in English. Thus, It would not be hard for me to develop good communication and interpersonal skills.

Weaknesses: It is so hard to identify my weaknesses as I am fond to explore new things. Though, I know English so well but I think I still need to improve in that field.

Opportunities: One of the opportunities that help me achieve my learning goals is the chance to study in the prestigious university in Australia and be able to learn new cultures and meet various people.

Plan: Since then, I am taking steps to achieve these goals and as of now, I am pursuing a nursing degree here in Australia to improve my skills and uphold myself in the profession.

Reflection and Self-assessment

I can say that I got a long way in nursing and it keeps me on the right track. Honestly, I never imagine myself being a nurse which is taking good care of patients. From what I know, females are good at it. Well, that is just my presumptions and will remain as it is. Being in the nursing profession, I never thought that this is just so fulfilling. As I go through my career path, I got to know that nursing is not easy. It is actually complicated but understanding it deeply and putting yourself into it is something that keeps me moving on to improve my professional and personal development as a nurse. There are still more to learn and explore in the world of nursing.  With great honour and respect to my fellow nurses, Let us put our chin up high and be proud of our profession.
