My Philosophy of Nursing
My philosophy of nursing is that a nurse should be able to provide safe, holistic, and empathetic care to clients without regards to race, ethnicity, gender or sexual preferences. The nurse should care for the client without prejudice, bias or being judgmental. A nurse should possess qualities like sensitivity, empathy, integrity, honesty, and competence. The nurse should act as caregiver, teacher and advocate for the client. A nurse is someone who cares for others who are physically or psychologically ill, or both; and helps to nurture the client in achieving a state of health and wellbeing. The nurse should have a holistic approch in providing care.

A Nurses Prayer
Please give me strength,
to face the day ahead. Dear Lord, Please give me courage, as I approach each hurting bed. Dear Lord,
Please give me wisdom
with every word I speak. Dear Lord,
Please give me patience,
as I comfort the sick and weak. Dear Lord,
Please give me assurance,
as the day slips into night.
That I have done the best I can,
that I have done what is right. Give to my heart, Lord… Compassion and understanding. Give to my hands,
skill and tenderness.
Give to my ears
the ability to listen.
Give to my lips
words of comfort.
Give to me, Lord…
strength for this selfless service
and enable me to give hope
to those I am called to serve.

The need of training
Last updated Friday, 10 February 2012, 7:05
Nursing is a scientifically rigorous discipline, which requires the updated information on a regular basis to ensure best possible care is provided to patients. Nurses are required to engage in a set amount of training to maintain their registration in almost all states. The technological advancements have made the job of a nurse to evolve continuously. In the past few years, several changes have been made in the methods of providing treatment, surgical procedures, and even the medications prescribed. Therefore, it is the responsibility of every nurse to remain updated with the ongoing changes as they will affect her patients.

Sources of stress in nursing
Last updated Friday, 10 February 2012, 7:04
The role of nursing is associated with multiple and conflicting demands imposed by nurse supervisors and managers, and by medical and administrative staff. Such a situation appears to lead to work overload and possible to role conflict. One form of such conflict often mentioned in surveys of nurses relates to the conflict inherent in the instrumental and goal-oriented demands of "getting the patient better" and those related to providing emotional support and relieving patient stress. Role conflict of this kind may be most obvious when dealing with patients who are critically ill and dying. Indeed, one of the areas of nursing that has attracted particular attention has been critical or intensive care nursing. Health care is also a sector which suffers a high rate of violent behaviour. Many studies on stress in nursing have attempted to measure, or have speculated on, the effects of such stress on nurses’ health and well-being. There appears to be general agreement that the experience of work-related stress generally detracts from the quality of nurses’ working lives, increases minor psychiatric morbidity, and may contribute to some forms of physical illness, with particular reference to musculoskeletal problems, stress and depression.
