MY PHILOSOPHY IN NURSING

" CARING IS THE ESSENCE OF NURSING"

My nursing philosophy is one of holistic care, delivering compassionate and culturally sensitive care to patients and families.   I believe that nursing is an occupation that includes professional individuals that demonstrate and express compassion, respect, dignity, and integrity to their patients and fellow coworkers. As a nurse, it is important for me to provide the highest quality nursing care possible to achieve excellence in patient results and at the same time, providing a respectful healing environment.   Nursing is about compassion and trying to understand human beings on all emotional, physical, and scientific levels.

DEVELOPMENT OF LEARNING GOALS

It is my desire as a student nurse here in Australia to successfully comple my theoretical and clinical learning and  to be able to apply the knowledge gained through my studies in a hospital  or community setting. I am aware that in order to meet that dream I have to first passed all my assessment tasks and as well as to get 100% mark in my drug calculation exam for me to be able to move on to my clinical placement. Furthermore, in my clinical placement I have to maintain a current nursing practices and standards in the delivery of therapeutic nursing care to individuals, families and communities under the framework set by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council. My goals also includes use of  critical thinking to provide therapeutic nursing care to individuals of different culture. In order for me to attain these ambitions , I have to study hard in all subjects and most especially  in understanding and studying the healthcare system and practice here in Australia. Moreover, I  will make it a habit to read journals of evidence based practice that can further enchance my knowledge.

Strength: My strenghts includes the good foundation of learning gained in completing a BS in nurisng  in the Philippines and as well as the knowledge learned from University of Ballarat (WLI) BNP-BN. Furthermore, I consider my ability to think and react underpressure as one of my key strengths.

Weakness: My weakeness is that im not accustomed to Australian healthcare setting and I am one of the nurses that cannot cushion the sorrow  but I am working on that to be professional on the profession I choose.

Plans: Enrolling at University of Ballarat is one of my plans to equipped my self to the Australian healthcare system and as well as if given a chance in the future to do  further studies in Psychiatric nursing.

REFLECTION AND SELF ASSESSMENT

Nursing has given me a chance to interact with  the diverse population group from all walks of life. The opportunity to be an agent of comfort and change is very rewarding and to witness a person recovers from illness or a birth of a child is so amazing. But the thought of becoming a nurse here in Australia is another challenge that gives me  butterflies on my stomach and the fact of finishing in 6 months sends mixed emotions of excitement ,happiness and fear of the unknown.  The first semester and now has been very difficult for me, I have worked really hard to accomplished all the task  required. Now,all  I can do  is to trust my God who brought me here I know He has a purpose for me that is way beyond my knowledge.  I  hope and pray that I can reach people and make a difference in their life through nursing.
